Works in Progress: The Spicka ensemble
Featuring Bb clarinet and trombone, this is a 2016 arrangement of a 16 measure, 2003 swing ballad with the following form: four bars of 3/4, four bars of 4/4, two bars of 5/4, two bars of 6/4, and four bars of 4/4.
Composed in 1982, Dancing with The Moon suggests exotic harmonies one might hear in the Near East. This 2016 arrangement for quintet features tenor saxophone, and trombone.
Composed in 2016 for a quintet with tenor sax and trombone, Dawn of the Photons starts with a 7-beat swing drum intro at 200 b.p.m, followed by an [A] section consisting of 7 bars that alter between 6/4 and 7/4, then a final bar of 8/4. At [B] the tempo changes to 240 b.p.m: 16 bars in 4/4 swing, ending with a 1-bar buzz drum roll. [A] and [B] repeat, ending with a 2-bar buzz roll. This is followed by a 12-bar [C] section, then a 20-bar [D] section that leads into the solos. The solo section is over eight chords, each last 8 bars, a total of 64. This is followed by an 8-bar interlude, then the next solo. AT the conclusion of the final solo is another 2-bar buzz roll, then D.S. to Coda to end.
